Nigeria World Cup qualification hangs by a thread after loss to Benin Republic
The Super Eagles of Nigeria's World Cup ambition suffered another set back after a loss to Benin Republic on Monday evening in Cote D'Ivoire, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nigeria lost 2-1 to Benin Republic after taking the lead in the matchday 4 encounter of the World Cup qualifiers at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
Raphael Onyedika had given Nigeria the lead on 28 minute, but the Super Eagles gave away two cheap goals later on
Jodel Dossou equalized for Benin to make it 1-1 on 37 minute before Steve Mounié's half time goal sealed the win for the Squirrels.
The result means the Super Eagles have just three points after four matches and now see their chances of making it to the 2026 World Cup fading away.
After four matches in the qualifiers so far, Nigeria are yet to record a win, and are currently 5th in group C, only above Zimbabwe who still have a game in hand.
