Maikunkele United proved bookmakers wrong as the non-league team edged Niger Tornadoes in the Semifinal of the Niger State Federation Cup.

After a 0-0 draw, both teams went on penalties where they Maikunkele United converted 4 to beat the Ikon Allah Boys who scored just two out of their five penalties.

The result means Niger Tornadoes will not represent the State in the national Federation Cup competition which commences in March with its final scheduled to hold before the NPFL final match.

The 2019 Federation Cup finalists will not be part of the competition for the first time while the State final of this year's event takes place this weekend.

Niger Tornadoes will now shift their attention to the 2023 Nigeria Professional Football League as it commences after general election break.
