Nice open talks with Rennes over Ghana defender Alidu Seidu

OGC Nice have begun concrete negotiations with Stade Rennais for Ghana international Alidu Seidu after receiving financial approval from the club’s owner, Ineos.

The 26-year-old defender has emerged as a priority target for Nice following the injury suffered by Antoine Mendy. Discussions between the two clubs are focused on a loan deal that would include an option to buy.

The clubs are still working through the financial details of the proposed move, including how Seidu’s salary would be divided during the loan and the conditions that would apply if Nice made the transfer permanent.

Seidu is understood to be open to moving to the Cote d’Azur, although he remains with the Rennes squad for now. The Breton club are currently in Austria ahead of their Europa League match against Sturm Graz on Wednesday evening.

His potential move to Nice is now regarded as a realistic possibility, but the final terms still need to be agreed between the two clubs.

Seidu joined Rennes after leaving Clermont and remains under contract with Stade Rennais until June 2029. His current market value is estimated at 6 million euros by Transfermarkt.

Rennes are due to face Sturm Graz in their opening match of the Europa League league phase, with negotiations over Seidu’s future expected to continue around the fixture.
