Newcastle withstand second-half Hull City fightback to win 2-1
Newcastle United secured a 2-1 victory over Hull City at St James’ Park in the fifth round of the Premier League.
The hosts made a fast start and were two goals ahead within the opening seven minutes. Joe Willock broke the deadlock in the third minute before Lewis Hall doubled Newcastle’s advantage four minutes later.
Newcastle had opportunities to extend their lead before half-time, but Hull City reduced the deficit in first-half stoppage time. Yoane Wissa converted a penalty in the 45+2nd minute to give the visitors a way back into the match.
Hull City continued to threaten after the interval and scored again in the 67th minute. Mohamed-Ali Cho found the net for the visitors, setting up a tense finish.
Newcastle held on to their narrow advantage during the closing stages, securing a 2-1 win.
