Newcastle stand-in coach John Carver has confirmed that he has been monitoring Ghanaian midfielder Andre Ayew with the possibility of signing the Marseille star in the summer.

The club has reportedly tabled an offer to the Olympique Marseille midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer.

Ayew, 25, is being tracked by a number of clubs at home and abroad.

And Newcastle head coach Carver is well aware of the Ghana international’s ability.

Carver admits he is impressed by Marseille winger Andre Ayew.

However, the Newcastle United head coach was giving few clues on the talk from France that he has been offered a pre-contract by the Magpies ahead of next season.

“I know about him because I watch a lot of European football,” said Carver.

“But there’s a process in the club. I’ll be part of that, and if and when it happens you’ll be the first to know.”

Carver has been part of the process in selecting players for next season with the club yet to begin the search for a new head coach.
