Ojo - who is yet to feature for Liverpool in the league this year, has recently returned from a back injury which he sustained in pre-season.

Benitez is believed to be a long term admirer of the England U19 international and following a high number of injuries for the Magpies, the Spaniard is rumoured to be on the verge of tabling an offer.

Saturday's 2-1 victory saw Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden and Vurnon Anita all sustain injuries which forced them to be withdrawn, which may cause Benitez to do some business this month.

The former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager did admit after the game that players could be incoming this month.

"We are working on things. We will see what we can do," said Benitez.

"The ideal situation would be to get the right players, not just to get players. We are working on that and seeing if we can do something or not this week."?

It has been a frustrating transfer window so far for Benitez who is believed to have missed out on Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Everton's Tom Cleverley - who opted for a loan move to Watford instead.

It is also reported that Newcastle will miss out on other targets Fabian Delph and James McCarthy, with neither believed to be willing to drop to the Championship.

Therefore, Benitez will be hopeful he can persuade Jurgen Klopp to part with 19-year-old Ojo to bolster his attacking options.
