In an interview with ESPN's Herculez Gomez on Tuesday, new Newcastle United striker Santiago Munoz kept the possibility of playing for the US men's national team open.

When Gomez asked if it was a difficult decision to choose El Tri over the Yanks, the 19-year-old, who joined the English Premier League team on an 18-month loan from Liga MX's Santos Laguna earlier this week, stated as much in the interview. Munoz revealed to Gomez that the choice isn't yet final.

"I'm not married to Mexico," he told Gomez on "Futbol Americas." "The door is still open."

Munoz has already represented Mexico at the junior level, scoring eight goals in 16 games for the U-17s while also earning three caps for the U-23s. Munoz, who was born in El Paso, Texas, is eligible to represent both the United States and Mexico
