Ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has elected Moez Nasri as its new president following an extraordinary General Assembly and Presidential election, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.

Nasri secured 247 out of 438 votes, comfortably defeating his closest rival, Mahmoud Hammami, by over 100 votes. His election comes at a critical time as Tunisia prepares for AFCON 2025, where they have been drawn in the same group as Nigeria’s Super Eagles following the official draw in Rabat on Monday.

In a post-election interview, Nasri highlighted the vacant head coach position as his administration’s most immediate challenge.

"One of our biggest priorities is appointing a new head coach to lead the team into AFCON 2025. Stability is crucial for our preparations, and we must act swiftly," Nasri stated.

The head coach position has been unfilled since the dismissal of Faouzi Benzarti following Tunisia’s shock home defeat to Comoros in the AFCON qualifiers last October. Although interim coach Kais Yaâkoubi managed to guide the team to qualification, he has since departed, leaving the position vacant ahead of the continental tournament.

Tunisia will begin their AFCON 2025 campaign before facing Nigeria in a crucial second-group match, making the appointment of a head coach a top priority for the new FTF leadership.
