Manchester United and Phil Jones in contract negotiations - sources
Julien Laurens explains why Jose Mourinho might not be a good fit at PSG, despite reported mutual interest.
Manchester United have opened contract talks with defender Phil Jones, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.
Jones has battled his way into the starting XI this season after struggling to make an impact last term amid problems with both form and fitness.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of Jose Mourinho's first-choice centre-backs, with United conceding only two goals in their opening eight Premier League games.
Jones has also been recalled to the England side by coach Gareth Southgate.
His current deal at United expires in 2019, and although United have an option to extend that by a further 12 months they are ready to reward him with a new long-term contract.
Talks are at an early stage, but sources said both parties are confident of a successful conclusion.
