Nigerian forward, Josh Maja started the new season with a hat-trick as Bromwich Albion secured a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Maja in the Sky Bet Championship match opener at Loftus Road Stadium on Saturday was unplayable.

Despite dominating the game, West Brom fell behind in the 16th minute when Lucas Andersen gave QPR the lead. However, Maja equalized 10 minutes later with a header.

The Nigeria international put West Brom ahead five minutes into the second half, and sealed the win with his third goal 25 minutes from time.

Maja's international teammate, Semi Ajayi, also featured for West Brom as they claimed all three points.

The victory sees West Brom move up the Championship table, and Maja becoming the first West Brom player to score a hat-trick in their opening game of a league season since Alf Bentley in 1913-14.
