LIGA - Sevilla is forced to leave ex-Eredivisionists out of the CL selection

Oussama Idrissi and Nemanja Gudelj will not play in the Champions League this season. The two ex-Eredivisionists are not included in the selection of Sevilla. The Spaniards are only allowed to list 22 players under UEFA rules.
Clubs are actually allowed to put 25 players on the list for the Champions League. However, four players must come from their own youth and that number is not feasible for the club from Andalusia. That is why Sevilla can only register 22 footballers and that is at the expense of midfielder Gudelj and attacker Idrissi.
Bredanaar Gudelj is in his third season with Sevilla and is still stuck in the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan until mid-2023. Born in Bergen op Zoom, Idrissi has been under contract with the club since the summer of 2020 and has a contract until mid-2025. However, he does not get to play much and was loaned out to Ajax last season. Gudelj and Idrissi play their international matches for Serbia and Morocco.
Karim Rekik is also in the CL selection of Sevilla. The Spaniards are paired in group G with Lille OSC (France), RB Salzburg (Austria) and VfL Wolfsburg (Germany). Sevilla kicks off the billion-dollar ball on Tuesday 14 September with a home game against Salzburg.
