LIGA - FIFA rejects Liga's appeal over release of South American players

Barcelona's match against Sevilla next month is one of two games that La Liga has postponed after losing an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over player release for forthcoming South American World Cup qualifiers.
With South American national teams each playing three World Cup qualifiers in eight days between September 2 and 9, La Liga has challenged FIFA's request that players be freed for service with their countries.
FIFA had arbitrarily extended the September international window by two days to allow CONMEBOL, the South American football organization, to organize the matches, it had protested.
It implies that players who are now stationed in Spain may not be able to return to their clubs until Friday, September 10, leaving them with little time to prepare for matches that weekend.
