Kurz: We need time to rebuild
New coach Marco Kurz says it will take him some time to restock his Melbourne Victory squad for the new A-League season.
Kurz, who has been in charge of Adelaide United for the past two seasons, was officially unveiled to the media at a function in Melbourne as Kevin Muscat's replacement.
Victory are keen to turn the page on last season, which ended in embarrassing fashion as they were thrashed 6-1 in the semi-finals by Sydney FC.
They finished third in the league, earning a spot in next year's Asian Champions League preliminary round, but it was a loss to their Big Blue rivals that cut deeply.
Carl Valeri retired and the club have lost another six players since the end of 2018/19, including Japanese marquee Keisuke Honda. So far, Victory have brought in just one new player - midfielder Mitch Barnett, who had made only three appearances for Brisbane Roar.
Kurz understands being in charge of the club means he has to deal with demands for success but he said: "Football is a results game, for sure, but I think on the other side we need time. When you see our roster currently, it's not too big, which means we have to do good work in the next weeks to sign good players.
"Then I hope everybody will give us the time to improve and grow in the right direction. Then I'm sure that we will have the best success that we can."
Victory need to fill four visa spots alone on their roster and chairman Anthony Di Pietro has promised to provide Kurz with every resource possible to support his squad overhaul.
Kurz guided United to the A-League Finals Series twice, only falling short of a Grand Final appearance last season when they lost on penalties to minor premiers Perth Glory.
Melbourne Victory are 5/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final and 16/5 to win the FFA Cup.
