Kotoko announce withdrawal of Champions League opponents East End Lions; CAF yet to confirm
Asante Kotoko claim their opponents East End Lions have officially pulled out of the CAF Champions League due to lack of footballing activities in the country.
There were rumours the Sierra Leonean club would withdraw as the club have been silent over their preparations for Africa.
Kotoko were scheduled to play the first-leg against Lions in Freetown in February and the return leg in Kumasi the following week
A statement on Kotoko’s official Twitter account read: “Breaking: Kotoko's opponent East End Lions have officially dropped out of the CAFCL due to lack of footballing activities
“We will automatically progress to the next stage of the competition with either St Georges or El Eguma our opponents.”
Kotoko are seeking to reach the Group stage of the competition after last year’s humiliating elimination by Liberian side Barrack Young Controllers.
