Kevin Gameiro scored Atletico Madrid's winner as they defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 at Balaidos to move up to third in La Liga.

Gameiro netted in the 28th minute for the visitors, firing home from close range after Celta had failed to deal with a corner.

Atletico had a chance to double their lead in the 72nd minute through Antoine Griezmann, but he could only send his header from a cross wide.

The victory sees Atletico leapfrog rivals Real Madrid, who play Eibar later on Sunday, to leave them six points off leaders Barcelona.

Celta, meanwhile, sit 10th in the table with 11 points from nine games.
