Maritzburg United defender John Pantsil has backed sought-after coach Steve Komphela to succeed at any club.

Komphela has emerged as a target for South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates as the season winds down.

United have been forced to reject claims their coach will leave the club at the end of the season but Ghana defender John Pantsil has backed the former Bafana Bafana captain to excel at any club.

"Yes, he can do well at such big clubs. In fact, I think coach Steve has qualities to coach at national team level too in my view," Paintsil told Goal.

"He doesn't only coach players, he also teaches players. For me, any coach who teaches is amazing and such coaches deserve credit.”

Komphela is one of the favourites to take over the coaching reigns at Parktown next season with Eric Tinkler expected to finish his role as caretaker coach at the end of the season.

Maritzburg take on Orlando Pirates in their last home match of the season and if they win they might secure a place in the top eight depending on results of other matches.
