Sule urges Roma to stay grounded after third straight Serie A win
Roma defender Niklas Sule has urged caution over title talk after the club began the new Serie A season with three consecutive victories, including a win against Atalanta.
Sule gave his assessment after Roma followed up their strong start by overcoming Atalanta in Serie A. Despite the perfect record from their opening three matches, the Germany defender said it was too soon to discuss whether Roma could go on to win the championship.
“It is still too early to talk about the title,” Sule said.
Roma’s early results have placed their opening run firmly in the spotlight. Three wins from three matches represent an ideal start to the new campaign, but Sule’s comments indicate that the defender does not want the team or those around it to draw major conclusions at this stage of the season.
The victory over Atalanta was supported by a dominant display in possession and a high volume of attempts. Roma controlled 66.5% of the ball during the match and registered 39 shots, with 10 of those efforts on target.
Those figures underline the attacking pressure Roma were able to apply, while also showing the extent to which they dictated the game. However, Sule’s message was focused on perspective rather than on the significance of one result or the team’s unbeaten start.
The three successive victories have given Roma maximum points from their first three Serie A fixtures. That record is the clearest indication of the club’s early progress, although the season remains at an initial stage and the title race has yet to take shape.
For now, the result against Atalanta has extended Roma’s winning run and maintained their flawless record. Sule’s comments ensure that the focus remains on continuing that form rather than making premature predictions about the final standings.
Roma will therefore take the confidence of a third consecutive win into the next part of the campaign, while the defender has set out a deliberately measured view of what the start means. The club have made an impressive opening statement, but Sule believes discussion of the Serie A title should wait.
