EUROMATCH NPFL: Ogunbote rues Plateau United’s dropped points after Doma comeback

Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote said his team should have taken all three points after recovering from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Doma United in the EUROMATCH-NPFL.

Doma United appeared to be in control of Wednesday’s matchday five encounter at Pantami Stadium in Gombe after Michael Adegbite struck twice to put the hosts 2-0 ahead.

Adegbite opened the scoring in the 35th minute before adding his second two minutes after the restart, in the 47th minute.

Plateau United responded strongly, with Gideon Monday reducing the deficit in the 58th minute. Paul Samson then completed the comeback by scoring the equaliser in the 77th minute.

The result left Doma United third in the league table with 10 points, while Plateau United moved to sixth on eight points.

Although Ogunbote acknowledged the value of earning a point after falling two goals behind, he said his side had made the task unnecessarily difficult by conceding avoidable goals.

“I thank God because we were able to get this one point from two goals behind,” Ogunbote told reporters.

“It wasn’t an easy one but I think we were very careless to have conceded those goals. But like I did say before now, as much as we’ve appreciated the one point, to us it’s two points loss.”

Ogunbote also pointed to the lack of understanding among his players, with several new arrivals still adapting to the team.

The Plateau United manager said the issue would improve as the season progressed, while asking the club’s supporters to continue backing the squad.

“All we need from our fans is to give us the required support in whatever capacity,” he said.

“Like I said, it’s a work in progress. We have more of the new players playing and the synergy has not actually manifested. But as we play more games we will be getting the understanding.”

Plateau United’s recovery ensured they avoided defeat after Doma United’s fast start, but Ogunbote maintained that the visitors had allowed two points to slip from their grasp.
