Celtic Open Contract Extension Talks With Kelechi Iheanacho
Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have opened discussions with Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho over a new contract following his impressive performances for the club, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The former Super Eagles forward joined the Hoops last summer on a one-year deal that included an option to extend his stay, and both parties are now working towards a longer-term agreement.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has publicly expressed his desire to retain Iheanacho beyond his current contract, confirming that negotiations are already in progress.
Despite attracting interest from other clubs, the Nigerian international is reportedly keen to remain at Celtic, where he has quickly established himself as an important member of the squad.
Talks between the player and the Scottish champions are said to be progressing positively, with both sides optimistic about reaching an agreement before the start of the new season.
Although a final deal has yet to be concluded, there is growing confidence that Iheanacho will continue his career at Celtic as the club looks to build on its domestic success and prepare for another campaign in Europe.
