Atune Unfazed by Bendel Insurance Defeat to Ranchers Bees
Bendel Insurance assistant coach Jolomi Atune has played down his side’s 2-1 defeat to Ranchers Bees, insisting the Benin Arsenals can quickly recover from the setback in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Insurance suffered the defeat in their Matchday 4 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano last Saturday after Ranchers Bees scored late to claim all three points.
The game remained goalless at the break before Chiedozie Jude Okorie put the hosts ahead four minutes into the second half.
Bendel Insurance responded strongly and restored parity through Lekan Gabriel in the 66th minute.
However, Ranchers Bees had the final say when Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu found the net 11 minutes from full-time to secure victory for the NPFL newcomers.
The goal was Zulkifilu’s fifth of the season, further underlining his impressive start to the campaign.
Despite the defeat, Atune refused to dwell on the result and believes the team still has plenty of time to improve.
“All is well. The result wasn’t favourable. You win some and lose some; that’s the game,” Atune told Eaglessports Radio.
“The game wasn’t bad. Both teams did their best, but in football, one side must win.
“There are no regrets about the result. The journey is still far; it’s a marathon.
“I will say the goals we conceded were as a result of a loss of concentration, but we will get it right. This team is still a work in progress.”
Bendel Insurance will have an immediate opportunity to respond when they host Ikorodu City in their Matchday 5 fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Wednesday.
