Few months to the election of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the African soccer governing body (CAF) has debunked the rumour that the body is backing the incumbent president, Amaju Pinnick, for a third term in office.

There are unconfirmed rumours that CAF under Patrice Motsepe is working behind the scene to have Pinnick retain his position as the president of the NFF.

Motsepe at a press conference on Friday afternoon cleared the air about the issues and said the body will support whoever emerged as the federation president in September elections.

" Pinnick is my friend but CAF and I will support and cooperate with whoever that Nigeria chooses to lead the football.

"My candidate is whoever that is legitimately elected as president," he said.

Pinnick is still in the FIFA Council for the next 3 years. Pinnick led board tenure ends in September this year. NFF electoral congress suppose to hold in September to usher in new board. Pinnick had announced that he is not going to contest as the President again.
