After opening his Blackburn Rovers goalscoring account last weekend, Hope Akpan is confident that he can score more goals for the club.

The Nigeria international had not scored a goal in the league for close to two years before netting in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, and was initially wrongly credited with a goal against Preston North End.

“I was very pleased to get my first goal,” said Akpan , according to Lancashire Telegraph.

“I did a good job of convincing everyone I scored last week so it’s good to have got off the mark.

“Now the aim has got to be to get a few more before the end of the season. I have proved in the past that when I’ve got one, I can go on to get a few. ”

A defensive midfielder by trade, Hope Akpan found the net eight times while on the books of Crawley Town but managed only one goal in the two and a half years he spent at Reading.
