Hodgson relishing crunch clash
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson says Saturday's match against Brighton is more important to the club's fans than a visit from Manchester United.
The veteran former England and Liverpool manager is also aware of his club's poor form at Selhurst Park this season and is determined to do something about that dismal record this weekend.
Only rock-bottom Huddersfield Town have a worse home record than the Eagles, who have only won three of their 14 fixtures at Selhurst Park, scoring just 10 goals.
In contrast they have won six away games and found the net 25 times in the process.
Hodgson said: "It's a derby game. That's how we and our supporters regard it. I think that rivalry was fiercest years ago but it was renewed last year when Brighton came up and are doing very, very well.
"I suppose that people from the outside need to realise that we regard this as a very, very important fixture and one which means a lot to our fans. You're affected by it, the way the fans feel, that's what derbies do.
"There is no magic formula to winning a game just because it happens to be a derby that you think is more important.
"For us it's a big game, it's one of the nine big games we have remaining. We do realise the importance of the occasion and to a lot of supporters, this means more than even a game against Man United."
Palace are 5/6 to beat Brighton and 6/5 to keep a clean sheet against the Seagulls.
