AshantiGold opened their 2014/15 season on a happy chapter after brushing aside returnees Accra Great Olympics 2-0 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday afternoon.
Winger Bernard Morrison fired Bashir Hayford's men ahead with a sensational 30th minute effort before Emmanuel Osei Baffoe firmed up things for AshGold with a 73rd minute goal.
Olympics could have pinned down their host in the opening minutes of the game but could not take their chances with their strikers missing valuable chances.
The early exchanges saw the two clubs fail to settle and Bernard Morrison got into the referee's books for the bad reasons, sawing down his challenger in the center area.
The visitors' resolution to prevent AshGold from finding the net increased their venom and they continued to pile pressure, expressing dominance with possession.
With attendance surprisingly high, home fans cheered their side on until the opener dully arrived on the half-hour mark. Morrison collected a pass from the flanks and skewed three markers on the line before curling home from the edge of the area.
The opener increased their appetite but were unable to added the second until mid-way through the second-half when Emmanuel Osei clinically finished off a move in the 73rd minute after intelligently beating the Olympics defence.
The results will put AshantiGold joint-top of the table.
