Ex-Black Stars skipper John Mensah has denied reports he’s close to joining local side Ashantigold.

Mensah, 32, has been without a club since leaving Slovakian side Nitra FC in the summer of 2014.

He was reported to be on the radar of the current Ghana Premier League side with reports suggesting he had agreed in principle to re-join his boyhood club.

But the strong centre-back has water down on the reports insisting the reports are wide off the mark.

“I’ve made no attempt to be in AshGold, it is only a rumor. I have not contacted any of the Management members that I want to play for AshGold,” Mensah told footballmadeinghana

“I am looking forward to get a new club and I will see what I can do also for the nation.”

The experienced defender has insisted he’s physically fit to play at the top level.
