Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has slammed Arsenal gaffer Mikel Arteta for giving Nigerian midfielder, Ethan Nwaneri, a taste of the Premier League at just 15 years of age.

Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest ever Premier League debutant at just 15 years and 181 days when he came on the pitch against Brentford in Arsenal's 3-0 win at the Brentford Community Stadium.

“I have seen superstars come on the scene at a young age and thrive and go on and carry on, but there has also been a lot who have fallen by the wayside,” Murphy said on talkSPORT.

“He is obviously a super-talent, doing well in training and impressing everybody, but surely they have got other 18, 19 and 20-year-olds who are further ahead in their development who could have gone on the bench. I think he is probably trying to keep a young superstar happy.”

It's left to see if the Nigerian youngster will have minutes under his belt again in the first team this season or if Mikel Arteta act at the Brentford Community Stadium was just making a youngster "happy".
