Flamingos cruise to final qualifying round
A hattrick from Chris Harmony secured a place in the final qualifying round of the Women's U-17 World Cup for the Nigeria U-17 Women’s team, the Flamingos, with a decisive 6-0 win over Burkina Faso in Abuja. Nigeriasoccernet.com reports
Following a 1-1 draw in Mali last week, the Flamingos delivered a commanding performance on home soil. Chidi Harmony, who scored Nigeria's lone goal in the first leg, opened the scoring.
Mary Effiong doubled the lead before Harmony added her second at the start of the second 45 minutes.
Layi Kareem extended the advantage with a sublime finish, and Harmony completed her hat-trick with another exquisite goal. Effiong rounded off the scoring late in the game.
Bankole Olowookere’s teams will compete in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic from 16 October to 3 November, 2024.
The Flamingos, who finished third in the 2022 tournament in India, will face the winner of the Senegal-Liberia fixture in the final qualifying round. Senegal currently leads 3-1 ahead of the second leg in Monrovia this weekend.
