Failed Liverpool Defender's Reading Move Finally Set to Go Through Ahead of Derby County Clash
Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori's transfer to Championship side Reading is expected to go through on Tuesday after initial delays.
Royals officials agreed a £3.75m fee for the 23-year-old last week and according to assistant manager Andries Ulderink, the deal was on the verge of completion.
There had been a hold up in proceedings for reasons unconfirmed but Press Association reporter Simon Peach has claimed the move is finally set to go through.
"?
There had been speculation that issues relating to the club's takeover by a Chinese consortium might have held up the deal.
"?
Should the claims come to fruition, the Portuguese defender will hand a boost to the Royals by being available for selection for their crunch Championship match against Derby County.
Tiago Ilori's move from Liverpool to Reading set to - belatedly - be announced in the next day. Should be involved at Derby on Saturday
Reading currently lie fourth in the table with a six-point advantage over the Rams, and will be hoping for all three points at the iPro Stadium. Victory could take them to within three points of second-placed Brighton if results go their way.
"?
Manager Jaap Stam had revealed his desire and confidence of securing Ilori from the Reds last week, with the player even spotted at the Madejski Stadium.
He said, as reported by the "?Daily Star: "We want to sign him. I believe there is one thing to be done before it's finished, so hopefully that can be done in one or two days.
"?
"I am confident [it will happen]. I don't know exactly what it is but they've told me this and hopefully it's going to happen within a couple of days.
Ilori failed to make an impact at Liverpool after singing back in 2013. The youngster arrived on Merseyside in a £7m switch from Sporting Lisbon but managed just three FA Cup appearances for the club.
"?This season he has been behind Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, and even midfielder Lucas Leiva in the pecking order. "?
