Vice Chairman of the Black Meteors Management Committee Kweku Eyiah has revealed that no foreign based player was invited for the All African Games because clubs were not ready to release their players for the event.
According to the lawyer and co-founder of Tarkwah United, the tournament is not sanctioned by FIFA and clubs are not obliged to release their players hence their reluctance to allow their players to travel.
In an exclusive interview with Ghanasoccernet.com Kwaku Eyiah said, "The clubs weren't prepared to leave their players for four to six weeks".
"And the next fifa dates end on the 5th and 6th of September so you can't invite a player for a tournament to come and play in only one match. What happens to his name in the squad list?".
The vice chairman of the U23 side added that the only players who would be available will be fringe players who are not better than what we have in our local league hence the decision to name only local players for the event.
"Fringe players would only be the ones we can get and they are no way better than the locals".
The technical team of the side had named a 20-man squad of locally based players for the event without any foreign based player which raised a lot of questions in the media.
The Black Meteors are the defending champions in the men's football at the AAG after winning it in 2011 in Maputo and are expected to defend the flag of Ghana come September in Congo.
