Everton fans have in a poll massively endorsed the departure of Ghana winger Christian Atsu just a season after arriving on loan from Chelsea even though he was the best player at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

In a poll conducted by UK-based newspaper Echo, 80 percent of the 48,000 Toffees’ fans that took part in the survey involving 15 first team players say they want to see the back of the 23-year-old who emerged the Most Valuable Player at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Atsu has however struggled to assert himself at Goodison Park, starting just one Premier League game all-season-long as coach Martinez has not given him the playing time needed to prove his mettle.

The former FC Porto man was supposed to have blossomed when he arrived at the start of the season on loan from Chelsea.

Tagged at some point as one of the best young players coming through, Atus has depressingly been a major disappointment since joining Everton.

The winger signed by Chelsea last season pretty much excelled in his first loan stint in the Dutch top flight with Vitesse.

A combination of injuries and limited first team opportunities has now seen the Ghanaian youngster being considered as surplus to requirements by the club’s fans.

59 percent of the fans also think Gareth Barry should leave as is goalkeeper Tim Howard.

He wasn't given a fair chance to perform and thats why it has come to this. This same player has performed in every club that he has being. But when an ignorant coach like Roberto Martinez buys a top player like Atsu and plays him out of position or doesnt give him a fair chance, what do you expect? Lets focus on next season when he satrts playing for Chelsea? You'll see why he won the the AFCON player of the tournament. Everyone will see how good he is as a winger or playmaker. Idiot Roberto Martinez

he does not play with the confidence we know him to play with when he is playing for Everton. He is always in a hurry to pass the ball for fear of making mistake.he doesn't take on defenders when he should for the same reason and i am not impressed by his performance.
