England have been hit by the news Kieran Trippier will miss their upcoming games against the United States and Croatia because of a groin injury.
The 28-year-old Tottenham right wing-back is a key player in Three Lions' boss Gareth Southgate's plans and was a key man in the nation's charge to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, scoring in the last-four defeat against Croatia.
Trippier did report for duty on Monday, but after being assessed by the England medical staff at St George's Park, he was immediately sent back to Spurs because of the injury which he suffered in Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win at Crystal Palace.
It means Southgate could opt to give Liverpool starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold a chance to hold down a first-team spot when England face the USA in a friendly at Wembley on Thursday, before hosting Croatia in the Nations League on Sunday.
Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck had already withdrawn from the squad after suffering a badly broken ankle in the Gunners' goalless Europa League draw against Sporting Lisbon last Thursday.
England are 1/4 to defeat the USA, which will see the nation's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney handed one final outing in a Three Lions' shirt, while the United States are priced at 11/1 and the draw is 9/2.
