Ekerette Udom joins Villarreal from Rivers United

Nigerian defender Ekerette Udom has completed his transfer to Spanish club Villarreal, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

Udom, who has signed a two-year contract with the La Liga side, moves from Rivers United, the former Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions for an undisclosed fee.

Udom will initially join Villarreal B, the club’s reserve team competing in the Primera Federación – Group 2, Spain’s third-tier football league.

"Villarreal CF have reached an agreement with Rivers United for the transfer of young defender Ekerette Udom, who joins Villarreal B’s ranks.," announced the club on the official website.

His transfer marks an exciting step in his career as he transitions from Nigerian football to the European stage.

Last season, Udom was a key player for Rivers United, featuring prominently in their defensive line and contributing significantly to their campaign across all competition.

Before his time with Rivers United, Udom had spells with Sunshine Stars and Nasarawa United, where he developed his skills and established himself as a promising young talent. His move to Villarreal reflects his potential and the club’s interest in nurturing young defensive talent.

Villarreal’s sporting director, Fernando Roig Negueroles, expressed enthusiasm about Udom’s arrival, highlighting his solid defensive qualities and potential for growth. Udom is expected to gain valuable experience with Villarreal B, aiming for eventual promotion to the first team and further opportunities in Spanish football.
