Chelsea, Liverpool and Crystal Palace got off to flying starts in the EFL cup, all making it to the third round of the competition, with the Blues beating Bristol Rovers through goals from new man Michy Batshuayi and Victor Moses, while Liverpool put five past Burton Albion to advance.


Christian Benteke made his Palace debut, however, the striker did not get on the score-sheet as the Eagles beat Blackpool 2-0.

Preston North End 2-0 Oldham Athletic: Jordan Hugill and Eoin Doyle scored Preston's goals in this match against Oldham.


Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Rochdale:
Sandro won it for QPR with a brace following Matthew Lund's opening strike for Rochdale.


Scunthorpe United 1-2 Bristol City (AET): Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham did it again for Bristol City, adding to Bobby Reid's goal to get the win in extra time after Josh Morris had equalised for Scunthorpe with a penalty.


Stevenage 0-4 Stoke City: Peter Crouch registers a hat trick and Phillip Bardsley added on another for the rampant Potters.


Norwich City 6-1 Coventry City: Russel Martin, Ben Godfrey, Sergi Canos (2), Kyle Lafferty and Jacob Murphy all got on the score-sheet for Norwich, while Ruben Lameiras scored a penalty to give Coventry a consolation.


Oxford United 2-4 Brighton and Hove Albion: Tomer Hemed, Sam Adekugbe, Elvis Manu and Kazenga LuaLua all scored for Brighton, while Oxford's goals come from Wesley Thomas and Daniel Crowley.


Newcastle United 2-0 Cheltenham Town: Ayoze Perez did it all for the Magpies with a neat brace.

Millwall 1-2 Nottingham Forest: Jamie Paterson and Lars Veldwijk did the business for Forest, while Shaun Williams scored one for Milwall.


Luton Town 0-1 Leeds United: Tyler Denton scored the only goal of the match to hand Leeds the victory.


Exeter City 1-3 Hull City: Adama Diomande scores twice, while Robert Snodgrass added on another to give Hull the win. Jake Taylor scored the sole goal for Exeter.


Watford 1-2 Gillingham (AET): Gillingham toppled the Hornets with goals from Mark Byrne and Bradley Dack following Odion Ighalo's opening goal.


Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Cambridge United: Helder Costa and Jed Wallace got the goals in for Wolves. Medy Elito pulled one back for Cambridge, but that was as far as it got.


Blackburn Rovers 4-3 (AET) Crewe Alexandra: Scott Wharton, Hope Akpan and Craig Conway with goals for Blackburn, while Billy Bingham and a Chris Dagnall brace responded for Crewe, before Rovers' Shane Duffy came up with the extra-time winner.


Burton Albion 0-5 Liverpool: Daniel Sturridge scored a brace for the Reds, with Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi adding further to a Tom Naylor own goal.


Chelsea 3-1 Bristol Rovers: Michy Batshuayi scored brace in first start for Blues to fend off Rovers' charge. Victor Moses added another, while Peter Hartley and Ellis Harrison scored for the visitors.

Derby County (14)1-(13)1 Carlisle United (Pens): Derby got past Carlisle in epic penalty shootout after Darren Bent and Michael Jones scored within regulation time to send the match into overtime.


Everton 4-0 Yeovil Town: Goals from Aaron Lennon, Ross Barkley and Arouna Kone (2) made it an easy win for the Toffees.


Reading (4)2-(2)2 Milton Keynes Dons (Pens): Reading went through on penalties after drawing 2-2 in regulation time. Callum Harriot scored twice for the winners, with Dean Bowditch and Kabongo Tshimanga scoring for the visiting MK Dons.
