Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko will not appoint David Duncan as Mas-Ud Dramani’s successor, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.

Officials of the Porcupine Warriors are under intense pressure from the club’s supporters’ umbrella body to hire the ex-Hearts of Oak tactician.

But their dream is on the verge of being scuttled with Manhyia expected to kick against the move over ‘friendship ties’.

There are fears the club’s life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 will kick against the move due to his close association with the majority shareholder of their sworn rivals Heart of Oak Togbe Afede XIV.

The world respected king is believed to have been briefed on the reasons that led to the infamous departure of the tough-talking trainer from Hearts, prompting widespread reports that Otumfuo will not sanction the move.

Despite Duncan pedigree in the West African country, top officials of Manhyia are still hurting over certain negative comments he made against the club during his spells at Ashantigold and Hearts.

Former chief executive Jarvis Peprah led a campaign to kick against the appointment of the former Free State Stars coach, claiming he has unbridled hatred against the most powerful Ghanaian side.

Samuel Opoku Nti’s management are awaiting an express direction from the Life Patron before deciding on their new coach but insiders have told Ghana’s leading football website, GHANAsoccernet.com that he won’t be Duncan after all.

It seems Duncan will have to repair his image with the club to have any realistic chance of handling the two-time African champions in the foreseeable future.

However Kotoko’s options for a top-notch coach are few after ruling out a move for an expatriate.
