Como maintain unbeaten start with 2-1 win over Parma

Como extended their excellent unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Parma at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, securing their fourth win in five matches in all competitions (D1).

Cesc Fabregas’ side arrived on the back of an impressive UEFA Champions League debut victory and began this game with immediate intent. A cleverly worked corner from the left found Nico Paz unmarked, but his 17-yard shot took a deflection and went wide.

Como continued to apply pressure, with Yan Couto drawing a save from Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi. The Italian goalkeeper pushed the effort behind for another corner, but Como made the next set-piece count.

Paz delivered from the left and Jacobo Ramon met his cross inside the area, firing beyond Corvi to give the hosts the lead after 23 minutes. The goal maintained Como’s strong record of scoring before half-time: they had started the round with a league-high five first-half goals.

Como dominated possession for the remainder of the opening period but could not add to their advantage before the interval. Parma’s best chance came just before the break, when Simone Lontani reached Sascha Britschgi’s lofted pass near the edge of the six-yard box. His header, however, flew narrowly over the crossbar.

Parma improved after a subdued start to the second half and came close to equalising shortly after the hour. Emanuele Valeri’s delivery found substitute David Romero only four yards from goal, but Robert Sanchez produced an outstanding save to his left, turning the first-time effort on to the post.

Como responded when Maxence Caqueret released Kaiki Bruno with a precisely weighted pass. Kaiki lifted the ball over the advancing Corvi, but his attempt drifted just beyond the right-hand post.

Carlos Cuesta’s Parma continued to search for an equaliser, yet Como took control of the contest again in the 83rd minute. Samuele Ricci’s cross from the right was spilled by Corvi, leaving Kaiki with a simple finish from eight yards.

The home team nearly scored a third when Corvi saved Couto’s attempt. Caqueret collected the rebound but sent his follow-up wide of the right post.

Parma finally found the net in added time. Romero converted Pontus Almqvist’s cross, but the late goal could not prevent Como from holding on to victory and extending their unbeaten head-to-head run against Parma to six matches (W3, D3).

Parma remain without a league win and will try to change that when they host Genoa before this weekend’s international break.
