Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup will not be hindered by the outcome of the friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg and neither is the FIFA ranking a true measure of the strength of the Super Eagles according to a member of the NFF Technical Committee and former Super Eagle Coach, Christian Chukwu.

Chukwu played down on the significance of the potential outcome of the friendlies against an AFCON-bound Les Aigles and the 48th ranked team in Europe.
Chukwu maintains that the friendlies would serve as mere tune up games to assess the team and stressed that Nigeria’s current ranking – 14th spot in Africa and 67th in the World – will not stop the country from booking a ticket to Russia in 2018.
