Rivers United were triumphant at the end of the final whistle against their opponents Watanga FC in the first leg preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

 

The pride of Rivers saw off the Liberian based team by three goals to nil at the Adokiya Amiesimaka Stadium, Portharcourt.

 

First half goals from Kenechukwu Agu, Ebube Duru and Paul Acquah were enough to sink the Liberian champions and give Rivers the advantage ahead of the second leg encounter.

 

United wasted no time in stamping their authority in the game as new signing from Rangers International, Agu opened score in the 8th minute.

 

The momentum continued as ten minutes later Duru through an assist from Acquah scored Rivers scored from 20 yards volley.

 

Ghanaian Acquah would eventually got his own goal at the dead of half time through a headee to increase the cushion over Watanga FC.

 

By the second half,  continued to dominate the tempo of the game, but ard more goals to the three already scored as Watanga tried to do damage control with goal defending.
