From now on, Lennart Grill will stand between the posts in Norway. As Bayer Leverkusen officially put on record on Monday afternoon, the Europa League participant is lending his substitute keeper to the far north of Brann Bergen with immediate effect.
Initially, the U21 European champion had hoped to start the season as number two at the works club. With the signing of Andrey Lunev (previously at Zenit St. Petersburg) that didn't work out. Lunev is planned as a substitute behind regular goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.
In addition, the club still has Niklas Lomb as another substitute keeper in their own ranks, so that Grill could now be handed over to the Norwegian first division club by the end of 2021.
"It is important for Lennart to gain match practice as a regular goalkeeper," said Bayer Sports Director Simon Rolfes of the temporary departure. “He can further develop his sporting skills in Bergen, and experience abroad will also give him additional impetus.” Grill's follow-up contract in Leverkusen runs until 2024.
