Plateau United, Zakary Baraje, has been sacked by the club’s management.

Zakary, who helped the club earn two draws on the road and held El Kanemi to a 1-1 draw during a week 17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos, on Sunday was lucky not to be lynched by irate fans of the home side, who hurled insults at him and called for him to resign.

“The team’s general manager has been itching to sack Baraje, because after the other coach left, he (the manager) was in charge of the club in acting capacity, but, seeing as he and some people in the state FA wanted their person to be in charge, they were not happy when Baraje was appointed and, since then, have failed to give him the needed support. They always rejoiced at his failure and they programmed him to fail. Now, according to them, they have reason to sack him, following that draw.

“I wonder what the governor will do when he finds out, because, even the governor is unaware,” a reliable source within the club informed LEADERSHIP Sports today.

Baraje had been in charge of Akwa United of Uyo. He led them to lift the Federation Cup last year and got them into the CAF Confederation Cup, but was sacked on the eve of their first game.

The chairman of the state football association, Sunday Longbap and his secretary, could not be reached, as their phones rang, unanswered.
