Barnsley Boss Clears Air on Kelechi Nwakali’s Future
Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane has moved to clarify the uncertainty around Kelechi Nwakali’s status at the club, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
Speaking to BBC Radio, the coach confirmed that the Nigerian midfielder remains contracted until June 30, 2027, but is free to leave before the transfer window shuts.
Hourihane also dismissed circulating rumours of the player’s dismissal, saying: “Fired? Not heard anything about that.”
Despite being under contract, Nwakali has fallen out of favour at Oakwell.
The former Arsenal man has been dropped from recent matchday squads, signalling he is not part of Hourihane’s immediate plans.
Reports indicate the midfielder was sidelined after returning late from holiday.
This decision has raised doubts about his short-term future at the League One club.
Barnsley are now open to offers as the window nears its close.
For Nwakali, the coming weeks could decide whether he stays and fights for a place or seeks a fresh start elsewhere.
