"?Aston Villa reportedly backed out of a possible deal to sign Hull City striker Abel Hernandez due to the player demanding £70k-per-week, which would rise to £100k-per-week, in a potential new contract at Villa Park.

Abel Hernández asked for £100K a week at Villa if they were promoted? This is a striker with 5 Premier League goals. Barmy.

According to"? the Sun, the Uruguayan forward demanded an extortionate amount of money to drop down to the Championship, which would be set to rise to over £100k-per-week should he help the club return back to the Premier League this season.

Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has already brought in the likes of Ross McCormack from Fulham and Jonathan Kodjia from Bristol City to bolster their attacking options for the new campaign, with the latter joining on a staggering £15m deal after scoring 19 goals for City last season.

However, the Italian coach was said to be highly interested in bringing  26-year-old Hernandez to the second tier of English football, who scored 20 goals during Hull City's promotion push under former manager Steve Bruce, and has started brightly in the Premier League, scoring in the club's 2-0 away victory against Swansea City.

Villa owner Tony Xia took to Twitter to confirm that a deal had been agreed, however it eventually fell through when the player's agent demanded that his wages be increased to an amount that the Villa board were not prepared to meet.

Villa have had an indifferent start to the season under new manager Di Matteo, winning only one of their opening five games, and the fans will hope that their recent spending on attacking players will lead to more goals at this early stage in the season.
