Asamoah Gyan helps Al Ain reclaim league championship with goal on injury return
Al Ain have been confirmed as champions of the Arabian Gulf League following their win over Al Ittihad Kalba and the defeat to closest contenders Al Jazira.
The Boss did their bid with a 4-0 trouncing of Ittihad on Thursday evening in a game which substitute Asamoah Gyan scored on his return from a latest injury setback.
The championship was however secured on Friday evening when Al Jazira suffered a 4-2 defeat to Bani Yas to cede their challenge.
The result sees Al Ain build an unassailable 10 point lead over their closest contenders with three games to spare.
This thus becomes Al Ain’s 12th league championship in their history and the third for Asamoah Gyan in his four year-stint so far with the UAE giants.
Zlatko Dalic’s side can now concentrate on their campaign in the Asian Champions League having reclaimed their league title they lost to Al Ahli last season.
