Asamoah Gyan and his Al Ain side were officially crowned Arabian Gulf League champions on Saturday night when they ended their season with a 1-1 draw against Al Sharjah.

The Garden City club had the league title won with three games of the season left and at Staurday night’s final game they revelled in the atmosphere and the celebration with their fans and club management at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.

The wait was worth it for the champions as the organisers of the ceremony went all out to ensure it was a memorable night.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 59th minute, and it was the expectant home fans who were celebrating as Jires Kembo-Ekoko completed some slinky step-overs on the right before slotting in Mohamed Abdulrahman, who finished across goal to put the Champions 1-0 up.

Following the goal, Al Ain head coach Zlatko Dalic introduced stars Omar Abdulrahman and Asamoah Gyan to the fray having been afforded the luxury of resting some key players ahead of the coming President’s Cup and AFC Champions League fixtures.

Sharjah hit back with an equaliser 5 minutes later and it was the club’s top scorer, Wanderley Santos, who made it 17 League goals for the season with a composed left-footed finish to level at 1-1 and give Sharjah a total of 26 points for the campaign.

Gyan's season was plagued with injuries and managed 13 goals in 17 league appearances.
