Al Saed believes Air Force can repeat history
Hisor: Just the third successful AFC Cup title defence since the tournament began is very much on the cards ahead of the final later on Saturday against Tajikistan's FC Istiklol according to Hussam Al Saed, coach of holders Air Force Club.
The Iraqi side were crowned their nation's first continental club champions when they defeated JSW Benglauru of India in the 2016 final and, after once again reaching the competition climax, Al Saed is confident a repeat is on the cards.
"It's clear that FC Istiklol are a strong team with a lot of good players and they'll be playing with a lot of extra motivation in front of their home fans," said the Syrian.
"However, I feel we are able to beat them. Our team had a good preparation for the final and I can say that all my players are ready for the game.
"As current holders of the AFC Cup, we will give our best to repeat last year's result. All our fans back home in Iraq demand nothing less than victory and we will endeavour to prove these expectations correct - I believe we can do it."
Hosts FC Istiklol, though, do present a daunting challenge for Al Saed's men with the Tajik side unbeaten in the 2017 AFC Cup so far and boasting a 100 percent home record in front of their vocal and partisan support.
Nevertheless, for the man helming Air Force Club, the main concern will be the playing surface for the AFC Cup final itself, rather than the impact of an intimidating atmosphere.
"For us, the main problem is we will need some time to adapt to the artificial pitch," he added.
"Usually we play on natural grass pitches, but otherwise we have no other problems.
"Although the Iraqi Premier League hasn't begun yet, we have played several friendly games and we are well-prepared. We certainly have enough experienced players in the squad and we feel we can win the AFC Cup for a second time in a row."
Having just turned 21 years old just yesterday, Emad Mohsin would be considered one of the less experienced players in the squad.
Nevertheless, the striker can already boast winners' medals in the AFC Cup (2016), Iraqi Premier League (2016-17) and Iraq FA Cup (2016).

And Mohsin admits the team are hungry for more.
"I speak on behalf of the whole team: we are ready for battle and want to win the trophy again," he said.
"The match will be a very interesting one, and it will not be easy, but we will absolutely look to go home with the AFC Cup once again."
