AFCON 2025: A close look at 19 teams that have qualified ahead of final round
The TotalEnergies 2025 AFCON which is set to take place in Morocco is gradually taking shape ahead of the final qualifying round with 19 countries already qualified for the highest showpiece on the African continent, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.
On Matchday 5, Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, and Comoros joined Nigeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon as confirmed participants.
This group of qualified teams represents a mix of established football powers and rising stars. Host nation Morocco, along with Senegal and Algeria, are among the favorites, having consistently performed well in recent years. Egypt and defending champions Côte d'Ivoire also bring significant experience and success to the tournament.
Several nations are making a return to the AFCON stage, including DR Congo, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea. Uganda and Gabon are also back, aiming to make a deep run. South Africa's qualification marks a return after their impressive showing in the previous tournament.
While the majority of the spots have been filled, the qualification process is not yet complete. Matchday 5 continued on Saturday, and the final round of matches on Matchday 6 will determine the remaining teams. As the final spots are contested, anticipation is growing for the 24-team tournament in Morocco.
Qualified teams include: Morocco, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Uganda, South Africa, Gabon, Tunisia, Nigeria, Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, and Comoros.
One surprise omission is Ghana, Nigeria's bitter foes won't be going to the grand showpiece in Morocco after Angola edged them for a spot much to the disappointment of their fans.
