AFCON 2015: Two-goal hero Christian Atsu plays down heroics
Ghana winger Christian Atsu has refused to claim personal glory for his impressive performance in the 3-0 win over Guinea on Sunday.
The Black Stars managed to keep the highly talented Guinean side subdued for the entire duration of the quarter final game played in Malabo.
Atsu who was heavily criticized in Ghana’s opening group defeat to Senegal led the charge against the Sylu National by scoring a brace.
His second in particular – an unexpected 25 yarder from the edge of the box – snuffed out the competitive life out of the Guineans in the second half.
The on loan Chelsea player at Everton however refuses to take credit for Ghana’s impressive win – insisting it was a team effort.
“I am not the one playing well, it is the team that is playing well and I am happy about that,” he said after the match.
“Goals are not that important, win is more important and therefore I am happy that we won the game.”
Ghana will now face hosts Equatorial Guinea in the semi finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday.
