AFCON 2015: Striker Kwesi Appiah marks Nations Cup debut with terrific win over South Africa
Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah marked his Africa Cup of Nations debut on Tuesday evening in the comeback 2-1 win over South Africa.
The on-loan Cambridge United player replaced Jordan Ayew on 71 minutes and nearly snatched the match winner after four minutes.
Captain Asamoah Gyan teed up Appiah whose 18-yard shot clipped the side post after goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo had a fingertip to the ball.
Appiah was hoping to play a part in Ghana’s campaign at the Nations Cup and when called upon he did well to create a huge impression.
The 24-year-old could earn some game time in the quarter-final where they will meet the second placed team Group D.
Buzzing we are through!!! Our team showed belief, determination and fighting spirit!! Onto the next!! #BlackStars #AFCON2015 ??????
