AFCON 2015: Seydou Doumbia strikes leveller as Ivory Coast draw 1-1 with Guinea
A goal by Ivory Coast substitute Seydou Doumbia rescued a point for ten-man Elephants who were stunned by Guinea's first half goal in their Africa Nations Cup Group D opener.
Mohammed Yattara gave Guinea the lead in Malabo with a volleyed goal on the break during the first half before Doumbia netted the leveller.
With Gervinho being sent off in the second half, Ivory Coast still managed to push hard and settle for a draw. This, despite Guinea showing great hunger and will to win.
In the 16th minutes Gervinho made great run into the danger area, but his final effort ended up striking the goal framework.
The Roma star was at it again in the 34th minute, but this time his shot was easy collected by goalkeeper Naby Yattara.
Two minutes later Guinea's tall striker Mohhamed Yattara opened the scoring after a mistake by Serge Aurier at the far post allowed him to volley home a stunning shot. Guinea's winger Ibrahim Traore had done really well to send in the cross.
Immediately after that Ivory Coast came back in full force with Yaya Toure and Gervinho both trying to create something, but they could not break the Guinea backline.
In the 58th minute Gervinho was red carded for an off the ball incident in which he lashed out at his opponent and Ivory Coast were further on the back foot.
Then Guinea ht the cross bar through Traore, but Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard made some changes and one of his substitutes, Seydou Doumbia, made it count after 72 minutes.
After Bony chested the ball and calmly passed into space for Doumbia to run onto, he could make no mistake with the finish from inside the danger area, 1-1.
In the dying minutes of the match both teams attacked with all they had, but unfortunately neither could find a winning goal.
