AFCON 2015: Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan reveals 'Group of Death' is hardest in his AFCON history
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says the Group of Death in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations is the 'hardest' of the five tournaments he has played in Africa's flagship football competition.
This comes after the Black Stars secured a hard-fought 2-1 success against South Africa on Tuesday that took them through to the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The four-time champions come from a goal down against Bafana Bafana before rallying to defeat the South Africans to secure the last four place.
Just days after a late goal helped Ghana beat Algeria, ex-Chelsea coach Avram Grant enjoyed another dramatic show as Andre Ayew's 83rd minute goal led his side to a 2-1 victory over South Africa.
Captain Asamoah Gyan, whose last-gasp goal secured a 1-0 win against Algeria in the Black Stars' last outing, said: "I have played at five Cups of Nations, but this group was the hardest.
"We were very strong mentally, even after conceding the first goal.
"We kept believing and fought to the end knowing that we could win. With this team we can take on anyone in this competition."
Ghana will now face the runners-up in Group D in Malabo on Sunday.
