AFC president extends condolences on the passing of Persela FC goalkeeper, Choirul Huda
Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has sent his condolences to Football Association of Indonesia President Lt. General Edy Rahmayadi on the news of the sudden passing of Choirul Huda – Persela Football Club’s goalkeeper.
The AFC President extended his deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the goalkeeper who passed away on Sunday after a tragic incident during a First Division League match against Semen Padang.
"On behalf of the Asian football family, please convey my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his loved ones, friends and club during this difficult time," said Shaikh Salman.
Huda, 38, collided with a teammate in the 43rd minute of the match and was taken off the pitch on a stretcher after losing consciousness.
A medical team at the stadium attempted to resuscitate him and he was then taken to the Soegiri Hospital's intensive care unit and given breathing assistance and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but his condition deteriorated and he was pronounced to have passed away at 4.45 pm.
Huda, who is survived by his wife and two children, made more than 500 league appearances for Persela - his only club.
